Temple Basin

Sunday, August 31, 2008

Went to Temple Basin a few at the end of last week – The crew consisting of myself, Vaughan, Mark, Rob, Hayden and Heath.  ETD for the mission was 6am which quickly turned into 9.30am that meant we got to the bottom of Temple at about 5pm.  Then the 35min hike in turned out to be a solid 1.5hrs, this is no ordinary stroll around lake hayes either – you navigate yourself up a sketchy path guided by a few random wooden posts.    Mark and I decided to carry all our gear up with us instead of putting it in the goods lift as there was a rumour of night riding till 10pm – BAD IDEA – If you ever go there (which you should) then NEVER carry your gear up with you.  Trust me you don’t want all that extra weight on that walk.  We arrived in pitch blackness around 6.30pm but too an epic dinner that was just being served – Roast Pork and all the usual veges we’re on the table and ready to go!   Learning how to use nutcrackers for the first time was also pretty funny – everyone got the hang of it pretty quick I think.  The snow was defintely a little strange as it had a fair bit of rain after the crazy storm that hit the week before – so we we’re pretty unlucky not to get the freshies but we’ll be back for sure to score it after another dump… The terrain here is soo amazing plus the laid back vibe of the place and mint hospitality definetely makes it a worth while trip – Some pics below from Vaughan and a few off my digi too… also a short vid to come in the next week or so… Thanks to Alta for the van and MASSIVE thanks to Ben at Temple Basin for hooking it up! – www.templebasin.co.nz – Go There! img_4469_1_1.jpgYes thats a 3 level high bunk bed!… Definitely wouldn’t recommend the third level if your keen on a bit of sleep walking.    img_4600_3_1.jpg Soo good to come back to this after riding – all included with accomm – Chek out dat salad mang!  img_4615_3_1.jpgHiking Outimg_4609_2_1.jpg $10 buy in and $3 beers … Keen?img_4625_2_1-1.jpgPlenty of these guys around   11.jpgBuilt this jump over a bridge and a river – Pretty Deace   7.jpgThe Goods lift that you SHOULD use where at all possible  21.jpg The lodge at the bottom of the basin – a stones throw away from the lift  101.jpg  Hows the serenity…   5.jpg

Gay purr day…

Monday, August 25, 2008

Another Gaper day at ohau lodged in the history books…  A huge night on the booze the night before meant most we’re lagging turning up at 1pm at the earliest some even hitting the 3pm mark for a solid 2 runs… Thats all you need really in that sort of attire anyway.  Some amazing steez going on – some to the point of being disturbing.  Dave summed up the overall best dressed champ (kreemz) pridy well I thought cant remember his exact words but it was on the lines of – “its like driving by a bad car crash, so disturbing, but compelling enough that you cant help but stare’ –  peep the shots below.  3.jpg4.jpg  8.jpg 10.jpg 12.jpg 16.jpg 20.jpg 24.jpg 26.jpg 38.jpg 31.jpg 33.jpg 39.jpg

Diaries Downunder On Transworld

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

First episode of this web series has just been uploaded to transworldsnowboarding.com – So far the comments (all 5 of them) have been positive – this one in particular is good – “this video makes me want to spend all of money and fly to New Zealand!!” – Grammatical errors aside thats a good comment, well depending on which way you look at it I guess!  This is also good ‘Heavy Mang’ … yes it is heavy mang… very heavy… Geez…  i’m rambling – way too long in front of this oversized screen today… goodbye…

Dislocations

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

These just through from ‘staff photographer’ – Jeremy Thorns… Off in search of some cliffs resulted in a dislocated elbow straight lining out from the stash.  Feret taking full advantage of a range of pain killers including morphine, Bedazlam, codene and nos! although judging by that last pic it looks like lix might have indulged as well…
